I have always been keenly interested in writing and developing good handwriting skills. As a Graphic Design student, I was introduced to calligraphy, where thick and thin strokes flow on the paper to give a neat and clean look and proportional lettering. As I became more interested in calligraphy, I also learned about the typeface development process.
In comparison to the family of Roman typefaces, there are very few Devanagari typefaces. Even fewer are Devanagari typefaces in the script style. To resolve this issue, and also to provide a new and unique visual identity, I have developed Cali Devanagari, a script typeface inspired by Devanagari calligraphy strokes, featuring the Lagangantho knot of the Hindu traditional wedding.
