As the inter-caste child of Kirats who had converted into Christianity, I was introduced to my culture and traditional objects only in my mid-twenties. My family didn’t discuss our traditional culture very much at home.
I felt alienated from the objects and artefacts of my own culture. The guilt of not knowing those cultural objects created curiosity in me, which led me to inquire about the history and identity of my culture, and how these objects are linked to a person’s roots as a person.
Objects become marked by age, just as wrinkles and scars mark the passing of a person’s lifetime and experiences. In my project, I emphasize the untold story of traditional objects used in different cultures and their diminishing values by painting them in golden color.
