A disagreement with my teacher about why my ancestors migrated to Pokhara led me to start my research on the Newars of Pokhara. With the help of my grandfather, I started exploring. Talking to the senior citizens, and documenting the food, architecture and temples through photos and videos, I came to appreciate the authenticity and the uniqueness of the Newars of Pokhara and to see clearly the changes that they have gone through. I wondered how it would’ve felt migrating there from Bhaktapur 300 years ago. For my project I have attempted to recreate events from the past, capturing and showcasing them in the form of photos. The outfits, masks, jewelry, accessories and props were all recreated, making for a grueling, yet fun and rewarding process. These images are intended to be both standalone artworks promoting a hidden part of Pokhara, as well as to supplement a brief retelling of the history of my ancestors
