Our outward sight is in fact turned inward — we don’t see what we look at, but only our own ideas become reflected into our vision. Why do one’s thoughts sometimes stray when one’s sight moves? When we sense something, our minds begin to calculate and look for solutions to perceived problems. Is holding something in our perception not enough? Why does thought interfere with sense? Do our thoughts become a filter that separates, a screen that prohibits, or a lens or mirror which distorts the shape of what our senses perceive? Are we seeing and understanding differently because of this interference by thought? Whoever understands the complexity of the interrelationship between our place in the sensory world and the remove that results from thought and bias understands what’s truly going on.
